Plein Air of Mount Blanca

9x12
It was a beautiful evening and I could see that most likely as the sun was setting it would hit Mt Blanca nicely. I finished cleaning up after dinner and ran over to the ranch to get set up in time. Lo and behold- the clouds stayed away long enough for me to knock out this little painting. I have faced this view many times but usually in the morning which can be too cool for my taste. This scene was warm- just what I was looking for.

A Plein Air of San Francisco

Coni Grant and I needed to go to Antonito to pick up a few frames from our framer and so decided to paint the small church of San Francisco, Colorado which is southeast of San Luis. I have painted this church before - at the end of winter and nearly froze to death. Well this time the weather was much more pleasant and we found a great high viewpoint of the church from the cemetery. This church has been painted quite extensively by artists and I noticed an ad in one of the art journals( I can't remember which) by Walt Gonske - a painting of this church which will be in the Prix de West.

Fishing Shacks at Santa Maria- a Plein Air

6x8
This small painting was done while waiting for my family to get done fishing at Santa Maria Trout Club above Creede, Colorado. I didn't have a vehicle to drive and I've always liked these little fishing shacks so I painted them from a high viewpoint.

Dancing Trees at Dusk

This small 6x8 painting was done very quickly as the sun was setting. I was trying to paint as fast as the mosquitos were trying to bite me. I finished quickly and ran inside.

Plein Air at Lake Powell

My family and I took off to Lake Powell for the 4th of July - which I sometimes have thought to be one of the hottest places on the planet. But not this time- actually the weather was pretty nice and not too hot. Thank goodness! I painted this sitting on the deck of our cabin cruiser- it worked pretty well for a place to work. This is up a canyon called Navajo Creek (I think). More pictures later....

A House by Westcliff

I loved the simplicity of this scene and worked up a painting from a photo that I took in the fall. I love the Sangres from the east side; there are so many beautiful views and it's just a little different on the other side of these mountains.
