Cloudscapes

After Coni and I got back from Taos And after talking to Kemper about paint application, I did this painting for fun- the pic above is a closeup of the painting below. I piled it on quite thick and truly liked this approach to clouds- my clouds have always been so wimpy from too thin of an application of paint. Not this time!

That's really effective. I think I'm too stingy to use that amount of paint. Must be the poor boy in me. :)

I am stingy as well- that's why I had to force myself to use so much paint- but it was cheap tube of white that was easy to part with. Ha Ha

The thicker paint takes your paintings to a deeper level of expression, texture, clarity, and richness...the two dunes paintings you've had in the Visitor Center wouldn't have worked nearly as well without that...the paint and painting begin to take on a life of their own instead of just representing things. I love this new direction in your work! I know firsthand what you mean about cost concerns...but Rembrandt, Van Gogh, Pollock and other painters poorer than us really laid it on...helps us look to the horizon and realize that we have to let our voices be heard, and not hold back.

Hi Patrick- thank you so much. It was really fun to paint this one; kind of like frosting a cake!
