Dog Food Thieves

8x10
These little birds sit outside my window every day and steal dog and cat food every chance they get. While other birds are hopping along the side of roads, eating weed seeds, etc., these guys are getting extremely fat on dog food. They go through it faster than I can keep the bowl filled. It will be alot cheaper to feed the dog in the summer.

Afternoon at Pearl Lakes 12x16

This painting was done immediately after my previously posted painting - by then it was warm enough to take off my jacket- that's the way it is in Colorado at high altitudes- if the sun is shining and wind isn't blowing you can survive some pretty cold temperatures!

Well the New Year came in at a chilly -29 degrees at Pearl Lakes. My family stayed with some friends at Pearl Lakes - we had to snowmobile to the cabin on Dec 31 and it took awhile for the cabin to warm up- there had been quite a cold snap on the 31st and the wind didn't help much. The next day on the 1st- there was not a bit of wind so inspite of the cold it was rather pleasant. I started this painting at about 11:00 in the morning. The cabin in the front is the only cabin that I did any detail on - there were a bunch in the background that I suggested with small strokes of the brush- this was a rather hard painting to accomplish as - the light was so brilliant that I had to squint to constantly - everything was SOOO WHITE!!!

A Snowy Day up the Canyon

Canyon Shadows- 11x14
This painting was done in approximately an hour- by necessity I might add. The shadows come quite fast in this deep canyon and although I loved this spot to paint, the light just moved a little quicker than I had hoped. The snow wasn't all that deep yet but I will try to make it up the canyon to do some more- I suppose there has to be at least two more feet up there by now.

It was a beautiful day the week before thanksgiving and I decided to go painting.

I really didn't expect so much color in the landscape right then since all of the leaves had fallen off of the trees but it was really picturesque and I found so many candidates for good painting spots; finally deciding on this one. I really liked the contrast between the cool shadows and warm sunlight.
