PAAC paintout - last day

Ojo Sarco Church- Morning View
11x14
The last day of the PAAC paint out was a special treat. Peg took us to some amazing country - Ojo Sarco and Llano San Juan. I loved both of the churches and the weather was beautiful.  I painted Ojo Sarco in a straight on view.  It was up on a hill with more elevation directly behind it.  We stopped at the Sugar Nymph Bistro on the way to Llano San Juan for some delicious lattes- we mostly stared at a beautiful coconut cake sitting on the counter the whole time- but none of us ordered- thank goodness Peg had made sandwiches for us or I would have have eaten my fill- not a good thing right now.

We were pretty much shot by the time we made to this beautiful place so I did a small one, and moved through it rather quickly.  It was the last painting for me on this paintout since we were to drive home that night- and of course spend the next couple of days recovering.

Arroyo Seco-Early Morning

Arroyo Seco Church in the Spring
24x20
I finished this little church yesterday.  Sometimes there are paintings that just paint themselves; this was one of them.  I had taken a picture of this church two years ago into the light and just liked the feel of the photo.   I painted this on a surface of canvas painting dark purple- the dark purple definitely gives a different look to my work- more colorful, and well, just different. I really want to get outside to paint- Coni and I are thinking about tomorrow- I would just like to find some snow and that is pretty tough right now.

A Very Large Commission

I haven't been painting outside because I just haven't had the heart for it yet- but that is about to change- Coni and I are planning on painting outside tomorrow- I'm keeping my fingers crossed- AND... we are hoping to meet Peggy  in Antonito to paint- or somewhere in that area.

The above painting is a study for a very large commission that I am working on.  It will be approximately 44x68 finished- just trying to work out the details.  The little one painted pretty easily- I have a feeling that the large one isn't going to be as effortless.....
