February 28?

Does it look like tomorrow is going to be the first day of March? We are stuck in the winter zone and I hope we get out. This was painted at the ranch this morning and it snowed on me for half of the time I was there- I love the ranch -it is so diverse.

My good friend Patrice Walker called and said she would be coming through the valley on Thursday and would we like to paint? So Coni Grant and David Montgomery and Patrice and I ended up painting at an area close to the Alamosa Golf course- it was cold and windy and grey- this is a view to the northwest - I think the buildings in the background are the from the old dairy.

Havasu

This is the painting that I painted in Havasu- the desert always kicks me in the rear when painting- and it was difficult - I just am not used to the airy bushes that have very little form and the intense color of the sunsets. Well, I gave it my best shot and I know that I will have to work harder on this type of scene- I definitely have a lot of respect for desert painters such as Matt Smith( his workshop was a major eye opener) and Becky Joy- she's been painting a lot of nice desert scenes lately.

Flying to Lake Havasu

During President's Day weekend, we were able to slip away from this icebox and head to Havasu. I took pictures from the airplane window on the way. The artist in me is always looking for spots to paint and looking over Platora Reservoir, (above) I decided that it would be in my best interest to explore this area a lot more- when possible of course.
Jim and Jason in the front- Jim is trying to convince Jason into getting his pilot's license.

Flying over Navajo Reservoir. We used to live here during the summers on the weekends - until it got so difficult with the kids (when they were babies- and cried all the time)

Flagstaff Mountain- almost to Havasu- yeah! Yes I did paint there.. Later......

It was a cold morning when I painted this- well, actually it wasn't that cold when I started but the wind started kicking up and as time wore on- I just started to get more chilled. I enjoy painting around the Veterans Center because of all the beautiful, tall, pines. They are a nice foil for just about anything.,

I was trying to get some paintings submitted for the Alamosa Art Walk in March and most of the paintings I was to submit were rather large so I told the coordinator of the event that I was going to submit a small painting called "Revving Up" and although it wasn't even started yet, I told him it would be an old truck or car, something like that.

I painted this from a photo taken about 2 years ago at the Overland Sheepskin Company in Taos.. This is one cool old truck...

The DIA Dunes exhibition is finished showing in Denver so is now getting shipped to The Alamosa Regional Medical Center for an extended exhibition. This is the painting I plan to exhibit as one painting sold in Denver and the other painting has already been exhibited during the artwalk in Alamosa. I plan to make a quick switcheroo after the exhibit makes it's way down. I just wanted to have something fresh to display-- this is entitled "Dunes - Clear Day" and is 18x24.
